The aim of economic abuse is to limit the victim’s financial autonomy as a means of control. This type of abuse takes on different forms according to the victim’s employment situation.
Acts of economic abuse:
• Forcing the victim to beg for money
• Demanding detailed accounts for the smallest purchase
• Giving the victim little to no money for household expenses
• Refusing to give them money for their personal needs
• Keeping them in the dark about the household's financial situation
• Preventing the victim from working outside the home
• Keeping control of the family budget so the victim is unaware of the true financial situation
• The abuser doesn’t contribute to household expenses according to their own level of income
• Taking the victim's money and property without their consent
• Forcing the victim to quit their job
