Physical and sexual abuse
Beatings. Bruises. A husband hitting his wife. This is the most common image of domestic abuse, yet it affects people of all ages, gender identities, sexual orientations and social classes. It also doesn’t always leave bruises. In Switzerland, one person dies every two weeks as a result of domestic violence, and one attempted murder is reported to the police every week. It is estimated that 22% of women living in Switzerland have been subjected to unwanted sexual acts and 7% have been forced to have sex. In 68% of cases, the victims knew their attacker.
This episode covers physical abuse, marital rape and sexual abuse within a relationship.
Being in a relationship doesn’t mean making your body available at all times and in all ways, so where do you draw the line? How does physical and sexual abuse begin in a relationship? And most importantly, how do you escape it? How is it dealt with? How can you help and protect yourself?
These are some of the questions that this episode aims to answer.
