Hello,
You have found the courage to leave your home in order to protect yourself. You are now seeking help and support, which is why you have written to us.
We thank you for placing your trust in us. Our organisation specialises in domestic violence. We can provide you with information on this issue and refer you to services and organisations that may be able to support you.
We do not know the exact circumstances that led you to leave your home, but as you have contacted us, we assume that you may have experienced domestic violence. It takes great strength to leave one’s home to seek safety, and even more so when living in a country where one does not necessarily speak the language. Your decision demonstrates remarkable courage. You were right to leave in order to protect yourself.
Switzerland does not tolerate domestic violence : it is prohibited by law. Anyone who is a victim of domestic violence in Switzerland has the right to protection and support, regardless of nationality. You may therefore contact a LAVI centre (Law on Assistance to Victims of Crime) near your place of residence. These centres provide free and confidential legal, psychological, and material support. Each canton also offers emergency accommodation for women who are victims of violence, with costs that can be covered by LAVI centres. In addition, you are entitled to free interpreting services during consultations to facilitate communication with the professionals supporting you.
As you indicate that you live in the canton of Lucerne, we invite you to contact the Opferberatungsstelle by phone at 041 228 74 00 or by email at opferberatung@lu.ch. If you are located in another canton and are looking for a similar service, you may consult the page that lists all victim support centres in Switzerland.
We hope this information will be helpful and will enable you to find the support you need as soon as possible. Please do not hesitate to contact us again if you have further questions or if you would like to update us on your situation.
We send you our warmest regards,
